Dr. Mike is an Official Partner of the NFL Alumni Performance Lab for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy focusing on improving the length and quality of life that athletes and their families have after their playing years. What Is It?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (bHRT) is when you take hormones because the ones your body naturally produces are out
How Does It Work?
Consultation & Lab Work
We begin by doing an initial consultation where we discuss your symptoms, review your medical history and draw blood to help develop a treatment course.
Lab Review & Program Development
At this visit we review and break down all of your lab work. We then develop a customized treatment plan that will fit your lifestyle.
Pellet Implantation & Program Initiation
A 15 minute procedure is all it takes to get you back to being you. We implant hormone pellets and initiate prescription medications and supplements.
Live Your Life!
We see you back in the office for a follow up 4 weeks after your procedure. After that, we will see you in 4-6 months for another round of pellets. Don't worry, we are always available via our dedicated bHRT email.
bHRT Facts & Myths
Bioidentical hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones that your body naturally produces. This means that they interact with receptors in the body just as your natural hormones do with no adverse effects.
Bioidentical hormone replacement does not increase the risk of breast cancer, heart
disease, blood clots or stroke. In fact, testosterone has been shown to be protective against breast cancer and can help improve cholesterol levels which leads to a lower
risk of heart disease.
Testosterone in males and females can help improve libido and improve symptoms of
sexual dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction and vaginal lubrication.
Synthetic hormones are not identical to the hormones your body creates and,
therefore, do not interact with hormone receptors the way natural hormones do.
This is what leads to the feared side effects of hormone replacement.
bHRT can help improve cognition, memory and concentration, reduce brain fog, and
has been shown to be protective against developing Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Hormone replacement can help improve bone density and may help reduce the risk of osteoporosis in females.
Bioidentical hormones are the safest and most effective way to treat symptoms of
diminishing hormones, andropause or menopause.
Hormone therapy can help improve energy, metabolism and insulin sensitivity, which can be helpful for those who are at risk for developing diabetes.
Hormone decline starts as early as
35-40 years old. Optimizing your hormones earlier
in life may help prevent the development of some disease and can help improve the
quality of life. It’s all about aging gracefully.

Effects of Testosterone in Males
Hormones play a role in almost every biological process; blood pressure, digestion, blood sugar, sleep, growth and development just to name a few
Testosterone is vital to the health and well-being of men
Testosterone supports muscle mass, strength, endurance and exercise tolerance, but also helps decrease fat stores
Testosterone also contributes to psychological health and enhances the sense of well-being
Hormones are vital in sexual wellness and erectile function
Testosterone can help lower cholesterol and help prevent against cardiovascular disease
Effects of Hormone Decline & Andropause
Starting at age 35-40, total testosterone levels in men will decline by around 1% each year. This slow decline will eventually lead to hormone deficiency.
Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) may further worsen the symptoms of hormone decline as they bind to testosterone in the blood and decrease the free testosterone available to the body. The body will experience a 1.2% decline in free testosterone starting at age 35-40.
Some of the signs of testosterone decline include: fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, brain fog, muscle loss, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, skin thinning, anxiety, hair loss and muscle loss.
Why Pellet Therapy?
bHRT Pellet Therapy involves implanting multiple "tic tac" size pellets into the "love handle" region
These pellets contain testosterone that is identical to what is created by your body
These pellets slowly release testosterone into the body as needed to get your hormone levels to a safe, optimal and steady level, which lasts for 5-6 months
Other forms of testosterone replacement are not nearly as effective as injections lead to ups and downs in hormone levels, creams and patches have variable and unreliable absorption rates and oral pills are ineffective at raising hormone levels and are unsafe
Hormones in Females
Hormones are essential for normal growth and development. Testosterone is vital in both males and females for bone and muscle growth, psychological and brain health and overall sense of well-being. Estrogen in females is important to help maintain a healthy cholesterol level, maintain heart health and maintain strong and healthy bones. As early as 35 years old, females can begin to feel the effects of hormonal decline, this can happen despite your menopausal status. Some of the symptoms of hormone decline are fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, insomnia, irritability, vaginal dryness, hot sweats, mood changes and anxiety.
Symptoms of hormone decline include:
Risks associated with hormonal decline:
Increased risk of heart disease and stroke
Increased occurrence of osteoporosis
Increased incidence of certain cancers
Benefits of bHRT in Females
In females, we can replace estrogen & progesterone with or without testosterone, depending on symptoms. The benefits of each hormone is listed below:
Supports a healthy cholesterol profile, which protects the heart
Maintains healthy blood flow to the brain and can help with brain fog
Promotes bone health
Supports the maintenance of healthy growth of bones
Increases and maintains muscle mass
Decreases fat storage
Promotes a healthy sex drive
Decreases vaginal atrophy
May protect the breasts from
development of breast cancer
Why bHRT & Pellet Therapy?
bHRT involves using plant based pellets containing natural hormones that are
designed to function like the hormones naturally produced in your body
Synthetic hormones are typically derived from pregnant equine urine. These hormones bind to receptors in the body and stay attached which is what causes the negative side effects associated with traditional hormone replacement (i.e. blood clots, breast cancer risk, heart disease)
Time release pellets allow for continuous bioavailability of the hormones without the peaks and valleys associated with injectable, oral or topical hormones
Pellets are painlessly implanted once every 3-4 months in a quick procedure
